Lower Haight Art Walk, August, 2010

So as per usual the last Lower Haight Art Walk was a hit. The LH Merchant's Association put on a neighborhood scavenger hunt that seemed to be a hit and there were food vendors throughout the neighborhood. I found a cool video someone made of the scavenger hunt but I'm too busy to be bothered to find it and link to it. We don't have as many pictures for this one as the last art walks because we were all so busy doing tattoos. I think we hit our highest number with around 30 Get What You Get tattoos that night. Of course not everyone took pictures of what they did but here is a small sampling. Also a few shots of Grayceon playing. I love this band and I was totally right when I thought they'd sound awesome on the roof. Not to mention that they are a really cool group of people. I had fun tattooing them and hanging out with them before and after they played. Thanks guys!!!

I'm mulling over ideas for the next one which is in December and one thing I'd like to do is a fundraiser where a portion of the GWYG proceeds goes to a charity organization. I am open to suggestions on which charity that is. Also, someone mentioned letting us borrow their smoke machine for the next band. HA! Some lighting and pyrotechnics too? hmmmmmmmmm....

Aaron

Adam (on the left) and his girlfriend (that's Aaron on the right, not Adam's girlfriend!) have gotten tattooed at every artwalk we've had. She couldn't make it to this one so he got 2!

This is the other side of the street, from Grayceon's viewpoint.

I tattooed "Get What You Gets" on all the members of Grayceon. This is Zach the drummer lookin' sexy for the camera!

Hanna joined in on the fun and did this awesome panther. She wanted me to let you all know how much fun she had doing this one!

Also: A friendly reminder that our art show held at Molotov's is this Friday! We'll see you there!

Idle Hand at Molotov's?!

Yeah yeah, I know, I need to update. I need to put up the last art walk photos (have I mentioned how AWESOME it was?), and I have an inbox full of really fantastic tattoos by everyone at the shop and they're probably also annoyed I haven't put them up.

But...I been bizzzyyyyy..... so here's a little something to quench your thirst: The new owner's of Molotov's have invited us to have an art show at the bar and we couldn't be more excited to make new art to hang on their walls! The show will be up for 2 months and the opening is on the 2nd Friday of September. Lower Haters also have an art show that night and Molotov's will be doing $5 PBR/Jamesons from 8-11pm. Tell your friends! Hope to see ya there! I'll be standing in the shadows sippin' on vodka.

Busy Little Bees

I've been out of town for a few weeks in New York (so much fun! I'll have pictures and stories later) and my email has been popping off with pictures from everyone at the shop. Everyone has been super busy tattooing, painting, tattooing each other, travelling, making babies. I can't keep up! So here are some photos of what we've been up to the past few weeks----------->

I had so much fun doing this tattoo. It incorporates a lot of elements I especially enjoy tattooing, flowers, lettering, filigree...

Holly
I started this tattoo quite a while ago and finally got to finish it a few weeks ago. This is his grandfather and I like the way this picture looks with my client standing the same way as the man in the tattoo.

Holly
This was a fun one, I liked using the braille to represent water/bubbles.

Holly
I have mixed feelings about doing coverups, as I think most tattooers do. The trick is, obviously, to make a new tattoo that doesn't scream "Coverup!" . You don't want to show your new tattoo to someone and the first thing they say is "What did you cover?" I'm pleased with this coverup. I think I was pretty successful in getting rid of a tribal ankle band.

I also tattooed Adam recently and Isaac is always excited to be there when Adam's in the shop. As you can clearly see. Who cares what the tattoo looks like when you have a picture like this?!

Holly
Most of us at the shop have participated in a book project based on Unobserved holidays. I chose Weary Willie Day (Dec. 9) and made a linoleum print using a reduction process, which means after I print the 1st color I carve away at the linoleum and then print the next color. So I basically ruin the linoleum creating a limited edition run of prints. This picture shows the block with the fist color rolled on it. You can see what I plan to print in black in the future by the sharpie I colored on the block. I made 44 prints which I will post to sell online in the very near future!
