Lower Haight Art Walk, August, 2010

So as per usual the last Lower Haight Art Walk was a hit. The LH Merchant's Association put on a neighborhood scavenger hunt that seemed to be a hit and there were food vendors throughout the neighborhood. I found a cool video someone made of the scavenger hunt but I'm too busy to be bothered to find it and link to it. We don't have as many pictures for this one as the last art walks because we were all so busy doing tattoos. I think we hit our highest number with around 30 Get What You Get tattoos that night. Of course not everyone took pictures of what they did but here is a small sampling. Also a few shots of Grayceon playing. I love this band and I was totally right when I thought they'd sound awesome on the roof. Not to mention that they are a really cool group of people. I had fun tattooing them and hanging out with them before and after they played. Thanks guys!!!

I'm mulling over ideas for the next one which is in December and one thing I'd like to do is a fundraiser where a portion of the GWYG proceeds goes to a charity organization. I am open to suggestions on which charity that is. Also, someone mentioned letting us borrow their smoke machine for the next band. HA! Some lighting and pyrotechnics too? hmmmmmmmmm....

Aaron

Adam (on the left) and his girlfriend (that's Aaron on the right, not Adam's girlfriend!) have gotten tattooed at every artwalk we've had. She couldn't make it to this one so he got 2!

This is the crowd on one side of the street watching Grayceon play.

This is the other side of the street, from Grayceon's viewpoint.

I tattooed "Get What You Gets" on all the members of Grayceon. This is Zach the drummer lookin' sexy for the camera!

Hanna joined in on the fun and did this awesome panther. She wanted me to let you all know how much fun she had doing this one!

Also: A friendly reminder that our art show held at Molotov's is this Friday! We'll see you there!

Just Another Day at the Shop

Please enjoy a few paintings that Aaron did. He's been pretty productive with his painting and he's involved in a lot of shows at the moment. You can check his website for more info: aaronrhodges.com
He's also submitted a painting to an onine competition that's pretty cool and you can see it here:
Odd Nerdrum: Poetica Competition II

Holly finished this tattoo (after a billion sittings - mini portraits on ribcages = time consuming)

This is the symbol for Sicily. My client wanted a pretty Medusa, though, with a red eye. The red eye is because if you're color blind, and you need to pass a certain test, you can put a red contact lens in and beat the system!

This tattoo was fun! He gave me an image of his family crest that was a bit more basic than this and kind of boring so I redrew it and made the cock bigger. There's nothin' worse than a tiny cock.

Hanna tattooed some cool shoes on Isaac's inner thigh. She really enjoyed having her face right there, as you can see...

Erno's nephew came in to get a sweet memorial tattoo from Iggy.

Tomas tattooed Isaac's (unbearably stinky) foot.

Tomas also tattooed this huge, manly dagger on Jason's belly. He also tattooed a really cool eyeball on Aaron's achilles tendon. The boys at the shop are gluttons I tell ya!

We've also got Myles Karr from Three Kings Tattoo of Brooklyn, New York guesting at the shop this week. We've been having so much fun with guest artists rolling through this year! Guest spots are a great way for our clients to get tattooed by people they would usually have to travel pretty far to see. Anyway Myles got here yesterday and will be at the shop until Sunday. The mood in the shop is pretty awesome right now. Everyone's busy and having fun! Hanna is what I like to call our "Guest Artist in Residence" and will be covering for a few people as they go out of town this summer so you should definitely come in and check out her work as well.

I've got lots of fun summertime photos of things we've been doing in the shop and outside of the shop. So hopefully I can get some of those posted soon. I'll be heading to New York in a few weeks and I'm thinking about doing some tattoos while I'm there so hit me up if you're interested.

Love,
Holly

Down Here All the Fish is Happy

Lots of action around the shop as usual. Cris went to New York and worked at Saved Tattoo again. We've got Hanna Sandstrom guest spotting for a few weeks. This week we've also got Ben Viamontes from Albuquerque, NM from the 11th - 13th. (You can contact them personally or call the shop if you'd like to book an appointment with them). Jason and Aaron did some tattooing at The City Underground event at Fort Mason. We've done some fun tattoos at the shop, and judging by these pictures I'm about to show you, pet portraits surrounded by flowers is all the rage. That's good for us because that makes for a fun tattoo.

I'm completely distracted by Under the Sea playing on my TV right now. Wow. It's fantastic. Gotta go. Enjoy the photos...
